Dessert Republic

This week, my blog is shorter than usual as I have been away in Berlin! But with dessert eateries becoming increasingly popular, I thought I would tell you about a hidden gem that I have found recently. I am always looking for new dessert places to try, so if you have any recommendations, please do send them my way!

Dessert Republic is located in Chorlton on Barlow Moor Road and is one of the many but also better, dessert eateries in Manchester. It is family friendly, suitable for vegetarians and offers some fantastic options for reasonable prices.

I loved the décor in Dessert Republic. It carried a grey and marble theme throughout which I thought gave it an uplifting modern feel. It was also very tidy and clean which is always satisfying as many dessert eateries can often be the opposite. The booth we sat in was really comfy and the whole place just had a very relaxing and calming vibe.

Subz our server was very attentive, enthusiastic, polite and extremely friendly. There were no long waits for our food or milkshake and the presentation was perfect. He also made us aware of the unbelievable Nutella milkshake served in a Nutella jar… which you MUST try!

The food was absolutely fantastic at Dessert Republic. I chose the cookies and cream waffle (Oreo cookies, chocolate chip cookies, white chocolate, Nutella, whipped cream & chocolate ice cream). Amy chose the white chocolate waffle (White chocolate, milk chocolate & white chocolate ice cream) with an added extra of strawberries.

Dessert Republic have also gone the extra mile by providing Swiss Mövenpick ice cream. It was very flavoursome and contained additional chocolate pieces in each scoop. This made all the difference for me as you can really taste the difference between a standard ice cream and one such as Mövenpick.

What would I try next time? I think it would have to be the cookie dough (Freshly baked cookie dough served with Swiss Mövenpick ice cream). Prior to visiting, I had read great reviews about the cookie dough but waffles were too much of a temptation on the day. So when I next visit, I will be sure to update you on my experience. Plus, who doesn’t love cookie dough?!

Let’s just say I wasn’t counting my calories on this day. On top of the waffle, I shared a Nutella milkshake with Amy.

The milkshake comes in a Nutella Jar and is a blend of Oreo and Nutella. You then choose between chocolate or strawberry ice cream, which is then finished with an ice cream cone, whipped cream, sprinkles, chocolate drizzle and a Ferrero Rocher. The scoop of Mövenpick ice cream also melted into the milkshake, adding to the thick consistency which I loved.

Cookies & cream waffle = £7

White chocolate waffle = £6.50

Additional strawberries = £0.75

Nutella milkshake = £7

Total: £21.25

Overall rating – 9/10

Value for money – 7.5/10

Service – 10/10

In regards to value for money, I don’t think everyone would happily pay £7 for a waffle when there are chain restaurants that charge a smaller price. However, Dessert Republic is a family run business with an excellent level of customer service and delicious food, so I feel that as a treat, such a place is worth spending your money on.

Yes, I will definitely be returning to Dessert Republic.
